This study is being conducted by study investigator Amber Carroll under the faculty advisement of Kim Ferguson at Sarah Lawrence College. The study has been approved by the Sarah Lawrence College Institutional Review Board.

In general, the project aims to learn about possible factors that may impact the resilience of individuals who have been involved with the United States child welfare or foster care system, specifically looking at internal or interpersonal factors such as stress, trauma, social support, and emotion regulation. Some of the study materials ask questions about trauma and violence, including sexual violence, which may be distressing to some individuals.

The study consists of a verbal interview, a questionnaire, and a demographic survey, all of which will take a total of approximately 60-90 minutes. The study can be completed in person in New York or Boston metropolitan areas or electronically through a video chat with the interviewer. Participants will each receive a $30 gift card to In person participants will also receive reimbursement of a roundtrip subway or bus ride, or the equivalent, to subsidize the cost of their travel to and from the study site.

Participant requirements are as follows:
• Must be between the ages of 18 and 24;
• Must have been in out-of-home care (kinship care, family foster care, or a group home or institution) at some point in childhood or adolescence;
• Must have been exited from care, also known as being discharged or emancipated, for at least one year at the time of the interview; and
• Must be in New York or Boston metropolitan areas OR be anywhere in the United States and have access to an electronic device with an internet connection to participate in an electronic interview.
