  • Application Closes:  Sunday, April 5, 2020, at 5:00 PM Central


Youth Scholarship

The National Foster Parent Association offers up to six $500 scholarships to birth, foster, kinship, and youth adopted through foster care wishing to further their education beyond high school.  The applicant's parent, or another supportive adult, must be a member of the NFPA. Scholarships are awarded to high school-level students who are graduating or getting their GED.

One $500 scholarship each year is designated the Gordon Evans Scholarship in memory of a man who gave so much of himself to the NFPA and the many children he fostered, as well as the untold numbers of people whose lives he affected.

Application Requirements

  • An application must be submitted by online form.
  • Application, and all attachments, must be received by 5:00 PM Central on April 5, 2020.
  • Have a parent, or other supportive adult, that is a member of the NFPA ( they can join now )
  • A minimum of two letters of recommendation from foster parents, social workers, residential center, principal/teacher/guidance counselor, or employer.
  • Essay in 300-500 words on "How my foster care experience has shaped my future goals."
  • Incomplete applications will be disqualified.

If you plan to attend a College/University:

        • Must be in your senior year of high school (regardless of age)
        • Must provide a copy of high school transcript

If you plan to attend a Vocational/Technical School or Junior College:

        • Must be at least 17 and no more than 21 years of age (either in school or out)


continuing education scholarship

The National Foster Parent Association offers a scholarship to a former foster youth wishing to continue their college or technical school enrollment beyond the first year. A scholarship is awarded to a college or technical school-level student who is entering their second year of college or technical school.  

Application Requirements 

  • An application must be submitted by online form.
  • Application, and all attachments, must be received by 5:00 PM Central on April 5, 2020.
  • Essay in 300-500 words on "How my foster care experience has impacted my educational goals."
  • Must be or have been in foster care through a US child protection agency.  
  • This scholarship application will be used by members who emancipated or aged out of foster care at the age of 18 or older.
  • Must be currently enrolled in college or technical school, and provide proof
  • Are planning to continue college or technical school in the 2020-2021 school year
  • Incomplete applications will be disqualified.
